“My first experience of the Nedbank Golf Challenge was amazing.
Everything about the week was truly world class.”

Johannes Veerman wrote his name into Nedbank Golf Challenge history alongside some of the American greats of the game who have won “Africa’s Major”.

His one-stroke victory in 2024 saw him become the sixth American champion after Johnny Miller, Raymond Floyd, Corey Pavin, Jim Furyk and Max Homa.

He returns in 2025 hoping to join Furyk as the only Americans to have successfully defended their titles.

Veerman’s triumph in the Nedbank Golf Challenge marked his second DP World Tour title, and he’s become something of a specialist of final-round charges.

His first DP World Tour victory in the 2021 D+D Real Czech Masters saw him come from two shots behind on the final day to win, and in the Nedbank Golf Challenge he overturned a five-shot deficit in the final round to claim victory.

Born in California to a Dutch father and Indonesian mother, Veerman was studying to become a doctor to, in his words, “directly make an impact in people’s lives”. But after a firework accident injured his thumb, and upon the friendly advice from some doctors who told him, “every doctor wants to be on the golf course”, he instead decided on a career in professional golf.

Veerman lists Ernie Els as amongst his favourite players, having watched the South African play live in Europe.

The American has committed everything to his career, and so has his family. His wife Angela sold the fitness franchise they owned in Texas to be able to travel the world with him.
